Where to Stay
There is a full range of commercial accommodation in Shark Bay, most of which is located in Denham and Monkey Mia.
In Denham you will find the the greatest range of accommodation which caters for all budgets. There are three caravan parks, two holiday cottages, and two hotel/motels, plus holiday homes. All are within a short walk of the main street, if not on the main street!
At Monkey Mia there is a resort which includes luxury villas, backpacker accommodation and camping facilities. It is very popular because of its proximity to the dolphin interaction area.
Other sites to stay in Shark Bay include the Dirk Hartog Island Homestead, Nanga Bay Resort, and the Hamelin Pool Telegraph Station. They are further a field but conveniently located near some of the area’s World Heritage attractions.
Fancy getting nearer to nature?
Bush camping is a great way to fully immerse yourself in Shark Bay’s natural environment. Basic camping areas are provided in Francois Peron National Park, at Steep Point and on Dirk Hartog Island. These sites are only accessible to 4WD’s. Some camp sites on South Peron cater for 2 WD vehicles, but prior arrangement must be made with the Shire of Shark Bay.
All of these sites have either no facilities or very basic facilities and do not provide water, shade or power.
